September 12, 1989 Council Meeting <br /> page 3 <br /> • <br /> 1 J. Motion by Marks, second by Sundland to approve payment of $1 ,105.34 to <br /> 2 Dorsey and Whitney for legal services rendered from July 1 through July <br /> 3 31 , 1989: and to approve payment of $2,246.62 for legal services rendered <br /> 4 regarding contract termination issues. <br /> Motion carried unanimously <br /> 5 <br /> 6 <br /> 6 St. Anthony Sports Boosters Presentation <br /> 8 Two representatives of. the Sports Boosters, Dan Kramer and Terry Taylor, pre- <br /> 9 sented a check in the amount of -$4,000 to the Council . These funds were raised <br /> 10 by the St.. Anthony Lions Club, the St. Anthony Chamber of Commerce and the <br /> 11 St. Anthony Sports Boosters for the purposes of financing the cost of the new <br /> 12 Village float. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 Councilmember Ranallo .commented on the success of the Village Fest and briefly <br /> 15 reviewed some of the organizational problems encountered in its planning. He <br /> 16 noted that the float is being provided on a two-year lease arrangement. Part.i- <br /> 17 cipation.. in a number of other community activities was not as frequent as had <br /> 18 been hoped as the float was not completed at the anticipated time. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Councilmember Ranallo advised the Council that some residents of the community . <br /> 21 are in the process of setting up a non-profit corporation to be known as Village <br /> 22 Fest, InQorpo.rated. The City Attorney has volunteered his services in drafting <br /> �3 corporate by-laws and organizing this body. He stated that the Apache Plaza <br /> 24 Corporation has indicated they no longer will be sponsoring a queen pageant. <br /> �5 Also, one of the goals of this Corporation will be to raise funds for a com <br /> 26 munity bandshell . The Village Fest Committee has scheduled a meeting in City <br /> 27 Hall for September 13th at 7:00 p.m. . <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Mayor Sundland and members of the Council thanked the representatives of the <br /> 30 Sports Boosters for the very generous contribution. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 6. REPORTS <br /> 33 <br /> 34 A. Council <br /> 35 ' <br /> 36 'Proclamation: "Community Education Day - November 14, 1989" <br /> 37 Sue VanderHeyden -advised the Council that the St. Anthony theme for Community <br /> 38 Education Day is focused on strengthening families. She explained that it <br /> 39 is important that all citizens of St. Anthony be aware of the importance of <br /> 40 the family unit and the positive impact that spending time together can have <br /> 41 on strengthening the family. <br /> 42 <br /> 42 Motion by Karks, second by Ranallo to approve the proclamation whose purpose <br /> 44 was paraphrased by the.Ac.ting City Manager. <br /> 45 <br /> 45 Motion carried unanimously <br /> 47 <br /> 48 Councilmember Makowske thanked everyone for their prayers and good wishes <br /> 49 for a speedy recovery. <br /> 50 <br />
