RESPONSE TIME
Response tie is the period of time from when a call is dispatched to the fire department;
to the time the first fire department personnel arrive on the scene of an emergency.
Average response time nationally for career-staffed departments is currently 4 minutes 30
seconds. The average time for a Paid per Call department or departments who are staffed
by volunteers is 6minutes 30 seconds to over 8 minutes.
As you seen on the previous page our current response time is currently 2 minutes 40
seconds. This response is of great value to our community during a fire or medical
emergency. In the case of a fire it is estimated a fire doubles in size in its first five
minutes of growth. In the event of a heart attack the brain begins to die in four to six
minutes. So you can see the benefit of arriving to someone's event how our response time
benefits our customers.
The reason for our good response time is due to the staff monitoring the police
communications channel. When a medical is received the Police are dispatched first and
then fire. By monitoring the police channel our personnel are in the Engine prior to us
being dispatched. The other factor is the size of our community as it is as we can
transverse the city in a short amount of time.
