MEMORANDUM 48 <br /> DATE: 6/13/01 MEETING DATE: 06/19/01 <br /> TO: Planning Commission Members <br /> FROM: Susan.Henry, Assistant City Manager <br /> RE: City Ordinance Amendment <br /> With the City wishing to communicate better and more efficiently, one step in the process is <br /> establishing an electronic reader board in the community.To accomplish this, an ordinance change <br /> is necessary, as electronic signs/reader boards are not currently permitted in the City: <br /> Staff is recommending an ordinance amendment to allow for electronic signs for public <br /> informational purposes only, in areas zoned recreational open space on city and/or school-owned <br /> property. <br /> June 19 is considered the public hearing for the ordinance change.The next steps would be for the <br /> City Council to have three readings on the change: June 26, July 10, and July 24. The City Council <br /> could waive two of the three readings. <br /> Pending the ordinance amendment, staff will'. begin to work with a consulting firm for design <br /> renderings.and estimates for the electronic monument sign, complete with landscaping. The '. <br /> drawings and estimates will be ultimately presented to Planning Commission and City Council. <br /> The electronic monument sign is tentatively planned for placement at the comer of 33' and Silver <br /> Lake Road, in front of the tennis courts on the side the hill. <br /> Staff Recommendation:Staff recommends approval of the ordinance amendment. <br />
