Due to the mild winter, it was extremely difficult to
maintain the ice this year. Despite the sometimes poor ice condi-
tions and shorter hours the rinks were open, park usage for the
1982-1983 season exceeded the 1981-1982 season. Following indicates
hourly attendance (reflects only how many were there at any given
hour) .
1981-82 1982-83 1982-83 Est.
Park Hourly Total Hourly Total Season Total
Central 4, 406 9 , 344 3 , 114
Emerald 4 ,006 4 , 453 1, 484
Silver Point 3, 291 3, 973 1 , 324
The Public Works Department logged 880 straight time hours for the
preparation of six rinks , which is 1 ,040 hours less than during the
1981-82 season. This, too, is due to the mild weather curtailing
the time spent maintaining the ,rinks . Following outlines the costs
for rink maintenance for the 1982-83 season.
Manhours , 880 @ $10 . 50/hr.
(Straight time) $ 9 , 240 . 00
(Overtime) 395 . 00
Attendants 3 , 152 . 48
Supplies (restrooms, etc. ) 300 . 00
Power 139 . 75
Telephone 290 . 20
Gas 942 . 02
o Total $14 , 459 . 45
Comparatively, these costs for the 1981-82 season totalled $23 , 646 . 69 .
The lower cost is again attributable to the warm 1982-83 season.
Equipment costs for the 1982-83 season are as follows :
Tanker (_560 hrs . @ $12 . 00/hr . ) $6';720 . 00
Water Used (15 , 600 gal . ) 832 . 00
Sweeper & Shaver (160 hrs . @ $9 .00/hr. ) 1 , 440 . 00
Pick Up Plow ( 8 hrs . @ $7. 00/hr . ) 56 .00
Snow Blower (160 hrs . @ $5 . 00/hr. ) 800 .00
Total $9 , 848. 00
