. 1 <br /> Park System Improvements <br /> Figure b illustrates existing parks, sidewalks and trails, and identifies proposed major improvements. <br /> In addition,Columbia Heights will implement the following list of detailed improvements to its existing <br /> park system: <br /> • New Mini-Park: Investigate the need for an additional neighborhood park of 3 to 5 acres in the <br /> residential area north of 40th Avenue NE and west of Central Avenue: The Jackson Pond site <br /> should be considered. <br /> Hilltop and Edgemoor Park: The mini-parks of Hilltop and Edgemoor are designed for small <br /> child play, but are located on narrow sites near intersections. Consider the use of fences and <br /> barriers, along with dense landscaping, for increasing their protection from traffic. <br /> • Trees: Increase the quantity of overstory trees.in all City parks to create more sheltered "green, <br /> open spaces" for refuge and recreation. <br /> • Parking: Investigate the current parking needs, with the intent of decreasing .the amount of <br /> bituminous in the parking lots of Silver Lake Beach and Huset Park by installing landscaped ' <br /> islands. <br /> • Iluset Park Plan: Develop a plan which combines fragmented Huset Park to form a unified, <br /> community playfield. <br /> • Huset Park Property: Acquire additional land and the abandoned railroad right-of-way south of <br /> Huset Park. .Evaluate the needs and develop this additional park space. <br /> Huset Park Trail: Install a continuous, perimeter trail in Huset Park. <br /> • Huset Park Fence: Install fence and/or heavy landscape screening on the south side of Huset Park <br /> to screen views and noise of the adjacent industrial area. <br /> W,2S 54 <br />
