CHAPTER 3 PROTECTION OPEN SPACE 53 <br /> • OBJECTIVES: ERODIBLE SLOPES <br /> 1. Slopes which are susceptible to severe erosion because of their surface soil type should <br /> be maintained in a natural state. <br /> 2. Slopes subject to moderate erosion should be managed to minimize erosion and slippage, <br /> management may include special design and construction methods for development, or <br /> appropriate vegetation or other cover. <br /> POLICIES: ERODIBLE SLOPES <br /> 1. The City will amend and enforce existing regulations to maintain or replace vegetative <br /> cover or erodible slopes to reduce erosion and slippage problems. <br /> 2. The City will enforce existing regulations which control development on slopes that are <br /> susceptible to erosion. <br /> WOODLANDS <br /> • New Brighton has no forests, but does have scattered woodlands and the general tree <br /> cover associated with developed areas. Trees have a positive effect on the quality of life by <br /> providing recreation, habitat for wildlife, buffers against noise, air purification and shade for <br /> buildings. <br /> GOAL: WOODLANDS <br /> To preserve all remaining woodlands in the City in their natural state. <br /> OBJECTIVES: WOODLANDS <br /> 1. Innovative development plans should be encouraged in areas containing woodlands. <br /> These features should be incorporated as permanent parts of the development. <br /> 2. In the construction.of public and private facilities, the removal of trees should be <br /> avoided and replanting should take place where removal is unavoidable. <br /> POLICIES: WOODLANDS <br /> • 1. The City will enforce zoning code regulations which require a development plan to note <br /> existing trees, proposed tree removal and proposed plantings. <br />
