CHAPTER 4 TRANSPORTATION 89 <br /> • POLICIES: BIKEWAYS AND PEDESTRIANWAYS <br /> 1. Limit bikeways as much as possible to low traffic volume streets having less than 5,000 <br /> trips per day. <br /> 2. Where higher traffic volume streets must be included in the system, provide additional <br /> separation and identification for bikeways. <br /> 3. Connect municipal system to other municipal and County systems. <br /> 4. Provide a bikeway within 'h mile of every home in New Brighton. <br /> 5. In both the north and south parts of the City, provide looped routes of a length equal to <br /> the average recreational bike trip. <br /> 6. Connect bikeways to all City and regional parks, schools and major commercial areas. <br /> 7. Locate bikeways to provide a pleasant visual experience where possible. <br /> 8. Provide for bikeways in the upgrade of bridges over I-35W and I-694. <br /> Implementation of suggested.improvements should continue through the Capital <br /> Improvement Plan. Possible bikeway improvements are shown on Map 13. Minor arterials <br /> and collectors which are possible locations for future sidewalks are shown on Map 11. <br />
