CITY OF ST. ANTHONY
REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date Submitted Type of Action Requested Agenda Item Number
Resolution Reports-3c
May 6, 1982 Ordinance
Date Action Requested X Formal Action/Motion Title Status-Hennepin
Other County Public Safety
May 11 , 1982 Informational . Radio System
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I
TO: Mayor and Councilmen
FROM: David M. Childs, City Manager
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY DISCUSSION OF SUBJECT: Considerable discussion has taken place in re-
cent months and years about emergency. dispatching in Hennepin County. As you may be
aware, over half of the cities -in the County utilize the County for dispatching.
A substantial number, . however, -have their own dispatching operations and any
discussion of a total county-wide system has met with severe opposition. The
attached memo indicates that for the time being, we will not be charged for dis-
patching and describes some system improvements which we find very welcome.
FISCAL IMPACT: We have been concerned, in the past, that the County would start
charging for dispatching services. Their action not to charge the cities for the
operation is a welcome financial relief..
ALTERNATIVES : N/A
RECOMMENDATION: The proposed procedural and operations changes are very
desirable and Commissioner Salverda should be informed about our appreciation for
these developments.
CITY MANAGER' S REVIEW: COMMENTS :
0A..L*A rn ,ad&
