MEMORANDUM DATE: September 27, 1983 TO: David Childs , City Manager Mayor and Councilmen FROM: Larry Hamer, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Sanitary Sewer Repair - Edward Street ---------------------------------------------------------------------- As you are aware, the City Council recently approved the repair of the subject sewer pipe by inserting a resin liner, at an estimated cost of $40 . 00 per foot (approximately 375 feet) . Following Council ' s approal of the process/price, the sales representative for the liner checked the taps, whereupon he indicated the areas where tile was missing had to be repaired before the liner could be inserted, and it would not, however, be necessary to repair the cracks where the sewer is intact. The Public Works Department was only able to televise a portion of the pipe and discovered three areas of that portion needed to be repaired. Most of the line could not be observed due to obstructions in the pipe . The original pipe was installed extremely deep and an outside contractor had to be called in to do the digging so the remainder of the pipe could be televised. Even though every effort was made to save as much of the road as possible , most of it had to be torn up because of the extreme depth of the pipe. Final televising of the pipe showed three more repairs were needed. Cost of these three repairs plus the insertion of the liner is estimated at $20 , 000 . RECOMMENDATION Because the road must be removed in any event, I recommend the Public Works Department install the new line at a higher depth (see attach- ment) . The estimated cost will be an additional $ This does not include replacement of the concrete road, which would be bid out after the disrupted area is settled. A temporary blacktop road could be installed by the Public Works Department after the construction is completed and until the road construction can commence . -- - ---.------- Upon further study of the area it was discovered the two houses on the north end of the project may be on an elevation which would prevent them from being able to be hooked into the new system. Until that specific area is dug up further, we cannot verify one way or the other; however, at this point, chances appear better than even the elevation of the two houses will prove to be alright to go ahead with the project as recom- mended. We will not proceed until it is a certainty, as this could alter the face of the entire project. LH/cjk
