ST, ANTHONY CHEMICAL ABUSE INFORMATION COMMITTEE' May 7, 1984 - Present: ' ,Karen Thoresen-Quinn, Pat Beaubien, Don Hickerson, Jan,Stroom,. Tom' Lindskog, Evelyn Holthus, Joe Malrick, Barbara Malrick, Robert. Oliver Glen Seefeldt, Ron Taylor.. Absent: Jean Klosterman, George. Marks and Katherine- Maxwell .1. 'Jim Malrick, a student at-St..- Anthony asked for money to attend Partners in Prevention this summer. The -cost is $425 and he is soliciting funds from several sources. His presentation explained how he would use his skills as •a teacher's aide to .Mrs. Freeman. , The committee passed. a motion to give - $200.00 to Jim for the class with a check made out to Partners in Prevention- and Jim when he had raised his total. 2. Roar Taylor .gave the Service Bureau report. He is continuing to see one new family a week. The service will -continue over the summer.and at this point . it appears St. Anthony will have, funding to be Youth Service Bureau members next year.. .3. Secretary's report —approved. 4'. Tgeasurer's report $1,338.93 balance, (incl'udes check for- $1,100 from the City Council for this year's funding) 5. A letter has-bean prepared by.-tve-lyn .Holthus requesting the budget for 1985 to be put on regular schedule for city budgeting. It will be sent tomorrow. .. 6. "Drinks for Driving" books will be sent to graduates along with a letter. The letter-was- approved and signatures of committee members were added.- 7. Sports, Kids and Drugs program- for early fall was discussed. Cost of the . . program will be $475.00 plus $1.00 per booklet, "My Parents Think I Don't- Drink Because I'M In Sports." Tentative time and date was. selected as 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 7, 1984. It was decided to solicit funding - for the purchase of the books..-.- A .letter will be sent to- selected businesses and service organizations along with a. sample book. Follow up calls will be made by the Committee before the next meeting (Tuesday, June 5th) . The Committee unanimously recommends required attendance by students and strongly urged attendance by parents. &-phoning system will be implemented at the next meeting for parents to call parents. Evelyn Holthus will meet with all coaches and staff under Minnesota State High School .League rules- on Thursday, May .17th at 7:15 for exchange. of information and ideas. It was decided we needed to meet once more to tie up some details of next fall=s program.
