7 <br /> 1 NEW BUSINESS <br /> 2 RESOLUTION, RELATING TO- HEALTH -INSURANCE FOR RETIREES- ADOPTED , <br /> 3'-:'Mr. .Childs ' August 7th: memoranduff-advi:sed: the: Mayor and :Counci�lmembers.. <br /> 4 -that a-'problem with. the' City' s policy. -of allowin.g.:-r-e.tirees to. remain-.,. on <br /> 5 'the City' s health insurance plan ' at their own. .expense. had- arisen when <br /> 6 Hennepin County changed its. regulations to require . St.- Anthony to pay <br /> 7 the employee' s, share of health insurance if .re.tirees are to be allowed <br /> 8 in the program. The City is a participant in .the County program but its <br /> 9 policy had always been not to pay retiree insurance costs. <br /> 10 The City Manager indicated the two retirees who have taken advantage of <br /> 11 the option the City offered them- of- paying their own insurance costs <br /> 12 -would be - grandfathered .into the City' s plan but'-that option - could no <br /> 13 --longer be offered to future retirees. Mr. Childs indicated the other <br /> 14,' municipalities had voted down the proposal to allow- .reti-rees on the <br /> 15 plan, arguing that since employees are allowed to .retire at age 55 , <br /> 16 anyone who couldn' t get other health insurance. coverage might be a "drag <br /> 17 on the system." He added that- the City staff had to. negotiate strongly <br /> 18 to keep the two retirees who are on the City's p.lan .now in the program <br /> 19-- after .the. specifications were changed. <br /> The City Manager then reiterated his recommendation that the Council <br /> pass the resolution he had attached to his memorandum in the agenda <br /> 22 packet to avoid any employee misunderstandings about the City' s policy <br /> 23 on the matter . <br /> 24 Council Action <br /> 25 Motion by Marks , seconded by Makowske to adopt Resolution 87-026 . <br /> 26 RESOLUTION 87-026 <br /> 27 A RESOLUTION RELATING TO HEALTH INSURANCE <br /> 28 PROVISIONS FOR RETIRED EMPLOYEES <br /> 29 INVALIDATING RESOLUTION 84-052 : <br /> 30 Motion carried unanimously. <br /> 31 UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> 3.2 • Congressman Sabo Petitioned to Continue to Help :the City- Get Its Water <br /> 33 Supply Cleaned Up <br /> 34 Mr .
