My wife and I moved to St. Anthony this summer. After working
in the housing and community development field in Madison, W1, 1 returned to school and
earned a Master's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning. My concentration was
community development. I have a long history of volunteer work in the Madison
community and would like to continue this avocation in the Metropolitan area.
My work experience combined with my graduate studies has given me the knowledge and
insight about the need for long range community and economic development planning in
urban areas.
In August I was hired as the Program Coordinator for Greater Minneapolis Metro
Housing Corporation. I oversee three Housing Resource _Centers, adrn istering
Minneapolis neighborhoods "Neighborhood Revitalization Programs", M11FA and Met
Council housing rehab contracts. The mission of GMMHC is to improve the quality of
life of greater Minneapolis neighborhoods. The Resource-Centers provide one stop
housing information for renters and homeowners.
My past experience has been in working with government programs at the municipal and
state levels. I've been a member of the National Association of Housing and
Redevelopment Officials for over six years and hold a Public Housing Manager and
Section 8 Specialist certification. 1 am a member of the American Planners Association
and its MN affiliate and plan on taking the AICP accreditation exam in May 2000.
I have over fifteen years of volunteer experience with neighborhood and community
groups. This includes public speaking, program planning, grant writing, organizing, staff
supervision and policy development.
I look forward to discussing with you the challenges and opportunities facing the
St. Anthony Village and its environs.
S'jcerelly-,
William J.
