Hearn, 3607 - 37th Avenue N.E. , and Joseph W., Aselak, 2647 <br /> Jefferson Street N.E., American Legion Post . -#513 Commander and Manager, <br /> were present to give Chief Hickerson a $2, 500 check to purchase ten <br /> bullet-proof vests for the St. Anthony Police Department. <br /> In presenting the check, Commander Hearn said: <br /> * the same donation had been made to New Brighton and would be <br /> made to Columbia Heights; <br /> * the following month .the. Legion ,would .be purchasing some type of , <br /> equipment for the three cities ' fire. departments; <br /> . * he was making good on- his -promise not to forget St. Anthony after.- <br /> the Legion moved to New ' Brighton. <br /> Mayor Sundland expressed the appreciation of the Council and ..- the <br /> residents of St. Anthony, saying: <br /> * in today' s environment, bullet-proof vests are necessary tools of <br /> the trade for the police; <br /> * the generous donation would help alleviate some of the ongoing <br /> budget problems the City faces; <br /> * he had relayed the. Fire Department' s interest in an electronic <br /> heat sensor to Commander Hearn when he had asked for a ."shopping <br /> list" for the next Legion donation;. and <br /> * he thought a letter of appreciation for the Legion' s generosity <br /> would be in order. <br /> Council Action <br /> Motion - by.
