ANTHONY SHOPPING CENTER Eberhardt Company is the manager of the St. Anthony Shopping CE- -ter for own-rs who are out of the country (Portugal , I think) . They request a 16 cet X 10 feRt 9 inches (172 square feet) sign to be located on the end of the c- •a Brown, Photo, location facing Kenzie Terrace. The sign would have individua'! :errant listings, but perhaps not all of the tenants, since I understand that the .rP aces woule. be sold to the shopping center tenants. The spaces would be 8 inches X 8 feet and the sign is proposed be externally lit from above. The center currently has a free standing sign at the main entra on Highwav 88 which also has a reader board which can have various messages. Each business in the center has at least one wall sign - variant s have been given to Nationwide Sewing Machines, Town and Country Foods. Cokesbui Book Store. Dairy Queen for additional signs. and to Curtis Mathes for a lat ar sign. The St. Anthony Fun Center has a painted sign on the wall of th6. -old Brown Photo space which would be adjacent to the proposed sign. Apache Plaza had -a second non-conforming identification sign on ne west entrance (Stinson Boulevard) , but it has been removed, so they have only one identification sign. A variance was granted to Apache Medical Center for a similar si .1.1 on Stinson Boulevard, however, the individual businesses are not otherwise Jentified and the sign is in actuality -very ineffective in identifying the individ al tenants since the lettering is so small . In this case, too, the individual lettering may be too small to ..,a effective for individual tenants, with cars going by at 30 mph+. I also do not see such a variance to be a -step toward upgrading :*Ie center. It is an exterior lighted sign - will probably be partially blank (sin a some of the tenants will not be -buying space) - and would actually result in 3rd or 4th signs for some of the businesses.
