l REG_.-TAR COUNCIL MEETING N,AR'_ 10 , 1992 • PAGE 12 4 5 6 stop sign on Old Highway #88 . 7 8 ReAort of Mayor Ranallo 9 10 The Mayor reported on the recent Gopher Award Presentations 11 which were made to Jeremy Rice and Tony d 'Agostino. The 12 organization sponsors baseball events for boys from ages 13 13 through 16 and hope to be able to offer similar programs to 14 girls in the near future . The Mayor noted that all of the 15 youngsters involved have an opportunity to participate . They 16 received winner ' s rings similar to those awarded to 17 progessional athletes . .19 On March 3rd , twenty-two metropolitan mayors met at meeting 20 hosted by the Association of Metropolitan Municipalities at 21 the Kelly Inn in St . Paul . The purpose of the meeting; was to 22 discuss the projected State shortfall . All of those attending 23 agreed to send a letter to Governor Carlson requesting he 24 consider usina some of the State ' s "rainy day" fund for the 25 Eh:-.rtfall as well as combining some state departments . 2F 27 Mayor Ranallo noted that the City of St . Anthony will be 28 losinc $30 , 000 in State Aid funds . He noted that an additional 29 amount of state funding, may also be. lost with the 30 disappearance of all local government aids . At this point in 31 time no cutbacks of the Homestead Credit are being cons'dere . 32 -33 The Mayor_ recuested that mer-:bers of the Council consider a 34 work session be held in the afternoon n -wi-th -depa-rtment head-s 35 and staff to consider options to deal with the potentia'_ 36 shortfall . ?e felt r.c matter who was responsible for a 37 shortfall that the City Council would be blamed for arty, C. 3LI decrease in services . 39 40 on March 5th a Cable Commission Meeting was held and five 41 commissioners attended . There was question whether there was 42 a quorum but the body voted anyhow. The Mayor noted that there 43 is $13 , 000 available for scholarships for students pursuing 44 careers in cable television, journalism, etc . The recipient of 45 the scholarship not necessarily be in the senior year of 46 school . The scholarhips will be awarded at a banquet at the 47 Hyatt Regency on March 16th or 17th. Mayor Ranallo advised 48 that tickets are available for any members of the Council to 49 attend who so desired. 50 5l The Mayor advised that any residents who wish to t-.ave a vi-' 52 ta;.e run on cable need only brine the tape to the studio for `.3 edilting and it wi 1 l be run . =4
