l REG_.-TAR COUNCIL MEETING <br /> N,AR'_ 10 , 1992 • <br /> PAGE 12 <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> 6 stop sign on Old Highway #88 . <br /> 7 <br /> 8 ReAort of Mayor Ranallo <br /> 9 <br /> 10 The Mayor reported on the recent Gopher Award Presentations <br /> 11 which were made to Jeremy Rice and Tony d 'Agostino. The <br /> 12 organization sponsors baseball events for boys from ages 13 <br /> 13 through 16 and hope to be able to offer similar programs to <br /> 14 girls in the near future . The Mayor noted that all of the <br /> 15 youngsters involved have an opportunity to participate . They <br /> 16 received winner ' s rings similar to those awarded to <br /> 17 progessional athletes . <br /> .19 On March 3rd , twenty-two metropolitan mayors met at meeting <br /> 20 hosted by the Association of Metropolitan Municipalities at <br /> 21 the Kelly Inn in St . Paul . The purpose of the meeting; was to <br /> 22 discuss the projected State shortfall . All of those attending <br /> 23 agreed to send a letter to Governor Carlson requesting he <br /> 24 consider usina some of the State ' s "rainy day" fund for the <br /> 25 Eh:-.rtfall as well as combining some state departments . <br /> 2F <br /> 27 Mayor Ranallo noted that the City of St . Anthony will be <br /> 28 losinc $30 , 000 in State Aid funds . He noted that an additional <br /> 29 amount of state funding, may also be. lost with the <br /> 30 disappearance of all local government aids . At this point in <br /> 31 time no cutbacks of the Homestead Credit are being cons'dere . <br /> 32 <br /> -33 The Mayor_ recuested that mer-:bers of the Council consider a <br /> 34 work session be held in the afternoon n -wi-th -depa-rtment head-s <br /> 35 and staff to consider options to deal with the potentia'_ <br /> 36 shortfall . ?e felt r.c matter who was responsible for a <br /> 37 shortfall that the City Council would be blamed for arty, <br /> C. <br /> 3LI decrease in services . <br /> 39 <br /> 40 on March 5th a Cable Commission Meeting was held and five <br /> 41 commissioners attended . There was question whether there was <br /> 42 a quorum but the body voted anyhow. The Mayor noted that there <br /> 43 is $13 , 000 available for scholarships for students pursuing <br /> 44 careers in cable television, journalism, etc . The recipient of <br /> 45 the scholarship not necessarily be in the senior year of <br /> 46 school . The scholarhips will be awarded at a banquet at the <br /> 47 Hyatt Regency on March 16th or 17th. Mayor Ranallo advised <br /> 48 that tickets are available for any members of the Council to <br /> 49 attend who so desired. <br /> 50 <br /> 5l The Mayor advised that any residents who wish to t-.ave a vi-' <br /> 52 ta;.e run on cable need only brine the tape to the studio for <br /> `.3 edilting and it wi 1 l be run . <br /> =4 <br />
