Northgate Office Park
2500 New Brighton Blvd.
St. Anthony MN 55418
June 16, 2003
To; City of St. Anthony
Re: Sign Variance request
Item 1. The proposed sign height(16 feet) is considerably lower that the.building or any building
adjacent to it. It will not be visible from any direction except the East(Highway 88) or from any
residential area. The proposed setback from our driveway (4 feet) will impact only our snowplowing
contractors and will not interfere with any other person's normal functions.
Item 2. Limiting the sign to eight feet will make it difficult for motorists approaching our building to
locate it easily and may result in distracted driving as they attempt to see it. Extending the setback to
fifteen feet would result in the same difficulty, as well as requiring the removal of a large fir tree. We
also feel that raising the bottom of the sign proper to eight feet from the ground will heip prevent
vandalism.
Item 3. Given the unusual triangular configuration of our parking area, it would be difficult if not
impossible to place a sign to meet the conditions of the ordinance without disrupting our parking and the
orderly flow of traffic in and out.
Comprehensive Sign Plan: No further signage is planned in the foreseeable future and the unsightly
former driveup teller which currently occupies a portion of our lot(and which currently contains
signage) will be removed as a part of this project.
Lighting: Interior lighting by means of six vertical fluorescent high-output tubes mounted vertically on
twelve inch centers. Lighting is anticipated to be from dusk to midnight.
Landscaping: Will remain essentially unchanged except for the addition of small shrubs or bushes
around the base of the sign support.
Sincerely,
E.
