September 7, 2004
Ms. Sue Hall
Assistant City Manager
St. Anthony Village
3301 Silver Lake Road
St. Anthony, MN 55418-1699
Re: Amend Ordinance 810
Dear Ms. Hall,
Thank you for assisting in having me approach the city in an effort to Amend
Ordinance Section 810.
In our conversation last week you indicated I should let the city know what I want
to be able to do in our yard. I want to have a planting of native Minnesota plants. The
reason is as complex as the diversity of the plant community that will exist in our yard.
There is approximately one tenth of one percent of pre existing prairie left in Minnesota.
Our little piece will:
A. Provide an environmentally friendly space.
a. less use of petroleum
b. less use of city water
c. less noise from mowing
c. increase habitat for native butterflies and birds
B. Provide an alternative model, to a mowed lawn, visible to others from the
neighboring park.
C. Provide a personal expression of our values.
I am very interested in being able to establish the prairie in our back yard. I will
work with St. Anthony, my neighbors and Prairie Restoration, Inc. to have a beautiful
native prairie.
After our phone conversation last week I contacted Prairie Restoration, Inc. for
assistance in presenting material to the city regarding amending Ordinance 810. The
material they sent to me is enclosed with this letter. thave also enclosed the letter handed
out to our neighbors as well as the August 23, 2004 letter sent to John Malenick
Sincerely,
Tony Jordan
6 enclosures
