EVALUATION OF CHEMICAL PEOPLE PROGRAM
• The program, "The Chemical People: shown on Channel 2 Television on
November 1st, 2nd and 3rd and the four town meetings associated with it
were publicized by the St. Anthony Chemical Abuse Information Committee
by:
1. Posters in school and community
2. Naegle sign (sponsored by Kiwanas)
3. Sign in front of school advertised town meetings,
times and places.
4. An article in the St. Anthony bulletin
5. Two articles in Focus
6. A meeting set up by S.A.C.A.I.C. for community organiza-
tions and churches to provide information on the
program and offer book on how to have a town meeting.
7. Educators video shown in High School, Middle School,
Wilshire Park and St. Charles Borromeo.
8. a. Shown to all teachers at Wilshire
Park and St. Charles.
b. Available to teachers (2 days) for
viewing at their convenience in High
School and Middle School.
8. Study guides provided to all teachers in Middle School
Wilshire Park, and St. Charles. (In high school it was
available to those who saw the publicity video.)
• Town meeting attendance was low at St. Charles, Elmwood Lutheran and the High
School library, (10 or less) but at Nativity 20/30 persons attended each
evening. (The small group at the Nigh School joined them Wednesday and
Thursday.) Pat Norman at St. Charles reported that discussion was informative
and viewpoints were shared openly. She felt many parents had stayed home to
watch the program with their family.
School Survey
A short survey was given to all school staff to evaluate use of the program.
Results are as follows:
INFORMATION
SCHOOL No. of surveys Encouraged students Used Program Watched Program
returned to watch Study Guide lot 2nd 3rd
Wilshire Pk 8 1 1 4 3 1
Middle School 18 10 7 11 7 8
High School 15 1 5 1 5 6 6
St. Charles 13 3 0 5 5 5
It is difficult to evaluate a program such as this because we can't know what
• effect it may have had on individuals watching at home. It may have made many
parents aware and hopefully helped some to seek help.
Letters have been sent to persons sponsoring town meeting asking about future
plans and offering help with programs.
