ST. ANTHONY CHEMICAL ABUSE INFORMATION COMMITTEE - OCTOBER 9, 1984 Members Present: Jean Klosterman, Jan Stroom, Shelley .Freeman, Karen Thorsen-Quinn and Don Hickerson. 1 Minutes: Amended to change December meeting date-to December 4th. 2. Treasurer 's Report: None. There is a balance of $672.30. The City will be awarding $1,200 after the first of the year. 3. Old Business: A. Shelley reported two people responded to the request for new members for the Chemical Awareness Committee, which appeared in the Focus. They are: Mr. T.J. Fruth, who is a wine salesman and has a son in the High School . Mrs. Schmeling, who works for the Renaissance Treatment Center in Coon Rapids and has a daughter in the Middle School . Dave Childs will have two new members for the Committee in approximately one month. g e B. A motion was passed changing the name of our committee to St. Anthony Chemical Awareness Committee. (The former name will be retained on the bank records, tax g excempt applications, etc. ) , C. Shelley reported that a beautiful fall centerpiece was given to Evelyn Holthus as a going away gift. ;Y D. Shelley will be contacting John Sullivan of the Youth Service Bureau to see if } the Ad Hoc Advisory Task Force is necessary and to have members in attendance if • required . E. Other - No other business. 4. New Business: A. Shelley reported that Jim Malrick talked to Middle School children for 40 minutes concerning his experience with chemicals and responded to questions after the presenta- tion. Shelley reported that the kids responded very well and that the presentation was excellent. As a result of the presentation he will be speaking to the High School !� kids on Friday and he will be leading a Health Awareness Group with Shelley. Shelley reported that groups will also be formed on "Dealing With Divorce in the Family" and "Coping With a Loss". B. Shelley will be contacting Roseville regarding the "Concerned Parents Make a Difference" pamphlet they distributed to see if copies can be obtained, information reprinted, etc. If they allow her to reprint information from it, she will put selected articles in the Focus on a regular basis. Shelley will also compile a list of things parents can do to stop drinking parties they are aware of. The lists will possibly be published in the City Newsletter. Our main goal for the remainder of the year is to get information to members of the community. C. Shelley will be attending the Program Sharing Workshop in St. Cloud.
