1 Motion by Ranailo, seconded by Marks to table action on Resolution 88- <br /> 2 006 with the request that the City Manager arrange to have a represen- <br /> 3 tative from the Northern Mayors ' Association come in to discuss the <br /> 4 issue further with the Council. <br /> 5 RESOLUTION 88-006 <br /> 6 <br /> 7 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF INCREASING FUNDING <br /> 8 FOR THE NORTHERN MAYORS ' ASSOCIATION <br /> 9 Motion to table carried unanimously. <br /> 10 Chief Hickerson Gives Reasons . for Amending Weaj2ons and Controlled <br /> 11 Substances Ordinances <br /> 12 As he had indicated in his December 28th memorandum on the proposed <br /> 13 ordinance changes, the Police Chief said his police officers perceived <br /> 14 a need for specifically identifying various types of assault weapons <br /> 15 which they are now encountering on the streets and in the schools <br /> 16 which to date have not been addressed by ordinance. He also ex- <br /> 17 plained the frustrations of arresting someone who had under 2 ounces <br /> 18 of marijuana or 3 grams of cocaine in possession but who cannot be <br /> 19 prosecuted for having those amounts because the County Attorneys ' <br /> 20 guidelines recommend against prosecuting these possessions as feloni- • <br /> 21 es . Chief Hickerson said he would like the ordinance modified so <br /> 22 possession of these amounts could at least be prosecuted as mis- <br /> 23 demeanors in St. Anthony. <br /> 24 Mr . Soth indicated he had reviewed both ordinances . <br /> 25 Council Action <br /> 26 Motion by Ranallo, seconded by Marks to approve the first reading of <br /> 27 Ordinance 1988-001 . <br /> 28 ORDINANCE 1988-001 <br /> 29 AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO WEAPONS , AMENDING <br /> 30 SECTION 925 OF THE 1973 ST. ANTHONY CODE OF <br /> 31 ORDINANCES IN ITS ENTIRETY; REPEALING SECTION <br /> 32 930 OF THE 1973 ST. ANTHONY CODE OF ORDINANCES <br /> 33 Motion carried unanimously. <br /> 34 Motion by Marks, seconded by Sundland to approve the first reading of <br /> '35 Ordinance 1988-002 . <br /> 10 <br />
