i -
November 24th, 1996
Mr. Michael Mornson
City Manager
3301 Silver Lake Rd .
St. Anthony, MN 55418
Dear Mike:
Referring to your letters of the 25th of October and the 13th
of November of this year, and our various conversations re-
garding this matter, I want you to know that I have thought
very hard about what my decision would be in this matter.
I have discovered that I can not agree with the signage change.
I require parking to be available to people who come to
assist me in various ways; as .you are aware, I am disabled
and sometimes require more help than others, depending on
my state of health at the time.
During winter in particular it is very important to have the
parking available as my drive may go for as long as three to
five days before it is cleared.
The change in signage to 7-8AM and 2-3PM No Parking and No
Stopping on School Days would not assure me of parking space,
With the current mention of 1 hour parking on the Schools side
of the street, it would not take long to figure out you can
park on the South Side of the street from 8AM to 2PM.
It further is a matter of concern to me that I would be saying
yes to a sign that will not be enforced after a short initial
period of time.
Somehow this seems to penalize those who obey signage and rules
for parking, as most people do feel wrong about ignoring park-
ing signs . No one wants to park in front of my house at the
moment with the one hour restriction stated particularly when
.they know they will be staying longer.
I have seen some very responsible parents doing there very best
to comply with requesteadrop off and ,-pick up on the North side
of the street.
Some children attending the school are able to cross streets
safely. And I do wonder if this is a school matter with educa-
tion of Parents and Students regarding the situation; with up-
dates given as needed.
I also think the north side of the street needs to be opened to
parking - perhaps a 2 or 3 hour period during the school day.
