5® <br /> Village of Saint Anthony <br /> Executive Summary <br /> January, 2002 <br /> Twenty-eight percent of the sample reported living in Precinct.One; while forty-one percent <br /> resided.in Precinct Two. Precinct Three residents, in Ramsey County,accounted for the <br /> remaining thirty percent of the community. <br /> Quality of Life: <br /> Ninety-six percent of the residents rated the quality of life in Saint Anthony as either"excellent" <br /> or"good." Only four percent were more critical in their evaluations.. The thirty-eight percent <br /> rating the quality of life as "excellent"placed the village well within the top quartile of inner- <br /> ring suburban areas. <br /> Saint Anthony citizens were very contented with their community. When asked what they liked <br /> most about the community, twenty-seven percent cited "small town ambience," while thirty- <br /> three percent of the residents pointed to "central location of the community." "Quiet and <br /> peacefulness" was posted by fourteen percent, seven percent cited"nice people," and five <br /> percent each mentioned "strong neighborhoods,""good schools,"and "safe area." Only one <br /> _major serious issue facing the community was identified: "Apache Mall," at thirty-one percent. <br /> Nine percent pointed to "high taxes".and seven percent talked about the "need for more <br /> businesses." A comparatively normal six percent were "boosters"who saw absolutely no <br /> serious issues facing the community today. <br /> Eighty-nine percent rated the general sense of community among Saint Anthony residents as <br /> either"excellent" or"good;" only ten percent were more critical in their judgments. This rating <br /> proved to be comparatively strong when measured against other inner-ring suburban <br /> communities. <br /> Public Safety: <br /> Eighty percent reported they felt either"very safe" or"reasonably safe" walking alone in their <br /> neighborhood after dark; eighteen percent, though, felt"unsafe." Seventy percent, in fact, could <br /> identify no areas in the community where they would be afraid to walk alone at night. Only one <br /> area provoked mild concern: Apache Mall. <br /> Seventy-one percent thought crime in their neighborhood has "remained about the same"during <br /> the past two years. Nineteen percent saw an"increase," while three percent believed it <br /> "decreased." Twenty-seven percent were able to recall the name of at least one Saint Anthony <br /> Police Officer. And, twenty-eight percent reported a household member had participated in a <br /> Neighborhood Block Club,Neighborhood Block Party, or activities for National Night Out <br /> Page 2 <br />
