SIGNIFICANT CASES The police department works a large variety of criminal cases. Commonplace arrests for narcotics violations, theft, assault, and damage to property are part of our everyday caseload. However, to give the citizens an idea of some of the more significant cases worked this year, we would submit the following (this list is by no means exhaustive of the police department's yearly case load): • Burglary of Residence (02-000153) — Resident came home to find the house had been forcibly entered and burglarized. Extensive investigation yielded the arrest of one juvenile male. Loss recovered from a Minneapolis home. • First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct — Adult male met juvenile male victim on an internet talk.group. Adult male ultimately had sexual contact and penetration with juvenile male. Investigation identified the adult male suspect. Search warrant executed and computer and peripherals seized. One.adult male arrested. Worked with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force regarding forensic examination of computer. Adult male ultimately charged with soliciting minor for sex. • Terroristic Threat (02-001772) — Bomb threat called into the high school. Extensive investigation resulted in the arrest of one juvenile male. Juvenile male ultimately petitioned to Hennepin County for terroristic threats. • Burglary of Business (02-002273) — Squads responded to burglary in progress. Two adult males arrested at scene after foot chase. Criminal investigation resulted in the execution of two search warrants, recovery of a safe and additional property, and the arrest of three additional adult males. • First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct — Five-year-old female victimized by her 12-year-old stepbrother. Investigators worked with both families and ultimately arrested one juvenile male. Juvenile male was petitioned to Hennepin County for the offense. 12
