STAFF REPORT
DATE: May 12, 1993
TO: Planning Commission
FROM: David Mark Urbia, Management Assistant
ITEM: INFORMATION
Planning Commission Representative
The representative will go to the June 8th meeting to present items V.(B)-(E) and VI.(A).
Item V.(A) will be on the May 25th Council agenda, as this item needs approval for building
to begin. A representative will not be required to present this item on May 25th.
Therapeutic Massage Commercial Use
The tanning salon owner proposed to sub-lease a portion of her business to allow a recent
therapeutic massage graduate to conduct that use. There is no mention of this use in the
Commercial Zoning District. The Zoning Administrator determination would be to allow
this use by conditional use, as precedence has been set in this area. Therefore, this issue
may be in front of the Planning Commission next month. The conditions set on a previous
applicant includes:
(1) The massage therapy being restricted to Medicare approved hours of
operation.
(2) The permit would automatically be revoked if there is any violation of
applicable City or state statutes related to criminal sexual conduct by any
person associated with the operation.
(3) The massage therapy offered must comply with the code of ethics and
definition of massage therapy established by the American Massage Therapy
Association.
