4
EMERGENCY ACTIVITIES
During 1982 we experienced a significant decline in emergency runs
(from 353 in 1981 to 283 in 1982) . This decline is significant in
that it is exclusively in the area. of fire runs . This reduction in
fire activity reflects a downward trend experienced by most fire
departments in the metropolitan area. If this is , in fact, a trend,
I attribute. it to a decline in arson activity and a heightened
awareness of fire safety among the public .
As for medical runs , the increased activity we experienced during
1981 continued through 1982 . Once again , heart problems were the
most common problems we encountered.
Fire Runs
Faulty and false 18
Structure fires 12
Vehicle fires 11
Rubbish/grass 13
Smoke odors 13
Pole fires 1
Mutual aid 5
• TOTAL 73
Special Duties
Wires down 3
Gas spills 3
Water conditions 4
Bomb threats 1
Eject smoke/fumes 1
Gas leaks 4
Remove ring 1
Assist police 2
Animal control 1
Remove trees/debris 2
TOTAL 22
1982 Fire Loss
Structures $15 , 775 Fire Loss , 1980 $85 , 570
Vehicles 4 , 620 Fire Loss , 1981 $65,464
TOTAL, 1982 $20 , 395
