Childs, City Manager <br /> ITEM : REQUEST FROM GRACE COONEY FOR CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT - FOX <br /> SCHOOL OF MASSAGE & THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE TREATMENTS, 2504-39TH <br /> This is the second request for a conditional use permit for a massage <br /> facility in St. Anthony this year (.Rehab Dynamics, March, 1988) . I <br /> would not predict, however, that we will see an epidemic of such uses <br /> just as we haven't been overrun by body tanning salons , etc. I <br /> expect that a growing acceptance of massage as a legitimate business <br /> may have increased interest in such businesses at this time. <br /> This request differs from the Rehab Dynamics request (minutes <br /> attached) in several ways: <br /> *Ms. Cooney proposes a school of massage and therapeutic massages , <br /> located in a small shopping center; <br /> *Rehab Dynamics was specifically a part of a occupational therapy <br /> and rehab facility and was a Medicare approved facility in <br /> conjunction with the Apache Medical Complex; <br /> *hours of operation appear to be somewhat later in the day for Ms. <br /> Cooney's proposal; <br /> *both follow the code of conduct as provided by the American <br /> Massage Therapy Association. <br /> Because this is not a Medicare approved facility and seeks to meet <br /> different needs than Rehab Dynamics, the conditions proposed may need <br /> to be modified somewhat with respect to hours of operation, but the <br /> others should remain intact. <br /> :cjkl2 . 20 . 88 <br />
