Mayor Rana] lo advised that he <br /> 2 and the City Manager attended the graduation ceremonies . Council - <br /> 3 member Makowske would have attended but she represented the City at <br /> 4 a meeting in New Brighton regarding Silver Lake Road. <br /> 5 <br /> 6 The instructors course is a seventeen week program. Initially, the <br /> 7 Police Department had concerns with cost of having this officer <br /> 8 trained and the manpower needed to participate in the program. The <br /> 9 officer will focus on fifth and sixth grades but will generally <br /> 10 target elementary grade students. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 The coordinator of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension advised staff <br /> 13 that he would see that funds would be provided and that the officer <br /> 14 training would be locally done. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 On December 8, 1989 an agreement was entered into between the City <br /> 17 and the School District which addressed shared responsibilities for <br /> t8 the D.A.R.E. program regarding curriculum, facilities and classroom <br /> 19 time. <br /> 20 <br /> 41 Members of the School Board and District staff were in attendance at <br /> 22 this meeting to congratulate Officer Cotroneo. The Chief felt the <br /> �3 choice for this program was an excellent one and congratulated him. <br /> 24 Mayor Ranallo noted that Officer Cotroneo' s father had served in <br /> �5 a law enforcement capacity in Italy for twenty-four years with an <br /> 26 organization similar to the FBI . The Mayor also advised that a police • <br /> 27 officer from Minneapolis will have a D.A.R.E . officer assigned to St . <br /> Z8 Charles School . <br /> 29 <br /> 30 Chief Engstrom distributed D.A.R.E shirts to members of the Council <br /> 31 and to representatives of the School Board and the School District. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 3. APPROVAL OF AUGUST 14, 1990 COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Motion by Makowske, second by Wagner to approve the minutes of the <br /> 36 August 14, 1990 Council meeting with the following correction: <br /> 37 <br /> 36 page 11 , line 21 : delete the word "Planning" and replace with the <br /> 39 word " Cable" <br /> 40 <br /> 41 Motion carried unanimously <br /> J4 2 <br /> 43 4.
