Due to the small number of voters, the added
costs, and the difficulty of obtaining election judges for Precinct 3, staff is in the process of
dissolving Precinct 3 and simply adding those 62 registered voters to Hennepin County
Precinct 2. This change cannot occur, however, until the new redistricting lines are in place..
In the meantime, a Presidential Primary Election will be held on April 7, 1992. Staff is
proposing to relocate Hennepin County Precinct 3 into the Parkview gym for the presidential
primary. Judges have indicated the heating is poor at the present polling place for Precinct
3 (Wilshire Elementary, hallway) and it makes a very long day when there are so few voters.
State statutes require that a polling place relocation has Council approval and,in addition,
must be within 3,000 feet of the precinct boundary. The Parkview facility is approximately
2,200 feet from the nearest Precinct 3 boundary. Staff is not required to contact each
registered voter about such a change, however, we would place a notice in the Bulletin, and
post the information at City Hall, Apache Plaza and the St. Anthony Library. i`
•
