VARIANCES GRANTED: Variances may be granted by the Council after 10 a hearing is held by the Planning Commission and a recommendation is made to the 11 Council. Notices will be given, and a public hearing will be held, in the manner 12 provided in Section xx, Subd. xx, Item xx, of this Code's Zoning Chapter 16. MAJORITY VOTE: A majority affirmative vote of Council members 16 present is required to approve a variance. 17 Subd. 3. FEE: An application for a variance must be accompanied by the fee 18 provided in Section xx. 19 1400.15 NON-CONFORMING SIGNS 20 Subd. 1. LEGAL CONFORMING: All signs existing as of March 10, 1983 21 conforming to the requirements of this Chapter and not requiring permit under the 22 provisions of this Chapter, may be maintained so long as they continue to comply 23 with the provisions of this Chapter, as it may from time to time be amended. 24 Subd. 2. LEGAL NON-CONFORMING SIGNS: All signs existing as of March 10, 25 1983 which would be prohibited by this Chapter, or which would require a permit 26 under this Chapter but have not received a permit, will be deemed to be legal non- 27 conforming signs. Legal non-conforming signs may continue to exist without a permit 28 and without constituting a violation of this Chapter until one or more of the following 29 occurs: 30 (1) The sign is structurally altered (except for normal maintenance) in a 31 way which makes the sign less in compliance with this Chapter than it 32 was before the alteration.
