I
,I
City of St. Anthony
Council Minutes, May 10, 1994
Page 6
St. Anthony is required to pick up recyclables. Councilmember Enrooth
interjected that there were no exceptions and it is one of the conditions to be
approved for a license in the City. Bob Patterson, 3761 Foss Road, addressed the
Council. He is a new member of the Environmental Quality/Recycling Task
Force. Mr. Patterson agreed that there is reason to close the Recycling Center but
with all of the apartments, .townhomes and condominiums, there wouldn't be much
chance for those residents to continue to recycle easily. Mr. Patterson indicated
he lives in the Fosston Townhomes and their rubbish hauler is Waste Management
of Blaine..At present, they have rubbish pick up two days a week and no pick up
of recyclables. After a meeting with Waste Management, the agreement was that
the rubbish haulers would pick up rubbish and recyclables one day a week. He
feels that everybody, whether townhomes or apartments, should be able to
recycle. Mayor Ranallo was of the opinion that if the haulers want to pick up
rubbish twice a week, that was all right, however they must pick up recycling
without any additional charge a minimum of once a week. Mayor Ranallo
suggested staff investigate the situation at the Fosston Townhomes and the Council
table this issue until their May 24th meeting.

Motion by Marks, second by Enrooth to table closure of the Recycling Center until
the May 24th Council meeting.

Motion Carried Unanimously

X.
