EMERGENCY ACT=V=T=E S
We responded to 633 emergency calls during 1994 which is consistent
with the previous 5 years (our record is 647 runs in 1993) .
Geographically, we experienced an increase in runs south of 29th
Avenue and a slight decrease in all other sections of the City.
Medical emergency calls constituted 74% of our runs during 1994 ,
which is also consistent with previous years. 67% of our patients
were 55 years or older which illustrates the impact senior citizens
have on our emergency activities.
In terms of fire calls, 1994 could be characterized as the year of
mutual aid. During the year, we responded to 4 major house fires,
an apartment building fire, a row of townhomes on fire, and 2 major
gasoline fires in our neighboring communities. Although St. Anthony
had a relatively quiet fire year, $19,186 out of a total fire loss
of $27,611 was attributed to arson committed by juveniles. This is
a trend which is being felt metro-wide.
NON-MEDICAL CALLS
False/Faulty Alarms 56
Mutual Aid 19
Smoke 16
Assist Police 15
Structure Fires 14
Odors 10
Vehicle Fires 7
Gasoline Spills 6
Grass/Refuse 4
Power Lines Down 3
Invalid Assist 3
Water Problems .3
Lock-In 2
Animal Rescue 2
Gas Main Rupture 2
Pole Fires 2
Wind Storm 1
CO Detector 1
TOTAL 166
1994 FIRE LOSS
Structures $ 31186
Vehicles $ 24,425
TOTAL $27,611
7
