CITY OF ST. ANTHONY <br /> RESOLUTION 99-037 <br /> A RESOLUTION DECLARING SUPPORT FOR ACQUISITION <br /> OF THE ABANDONED BURLINGTON NORTHERN AND SANTA FE <br /> (BNSF) RAILROAD CORRIDOR THROUGH ROSEVILLE, <br /> ST. ANTHONY, AND MINNEAPOLIS <br /> WHEREAS, the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad Company owns a rail <br /> line and corridor through the cities of Roseville, St. Anthony, and Minneapolis; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the BNSF is proposing to abandon this rail line and corridor; and <br /> WHEREAS, this rail line and corridor is not being currently used, nor has it been used for <br /> railroad purposes during the past two years; and <br /> WHEREAS, representatives from the cities of Minneapolis, Roseville, and St..Anthony have <br /> met with representatives from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, <br /> • Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Ramsey County Regional Railroad <br /> Authority, Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority (HCRRA), <br /> Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board, and Ramsey County Parks. <br /> Department to explore mutual interest in acquiring the abandoned BNSF <br /> Railroad Corridor; and <br /> WHEREAS, the above mentioned representatives have agreed to pursue acquisition of the <br /> abandoned rail line for an ultimate transportation use with the possibility of an <br /> interim recreation use; and <br /> WHEREAS, the HCRRA has agreed to lead efforts to conduct an appraisal, a survey, an <br /> environmental assessment, and a title search of the property as well as to <br /> negotiate with the BNSF Railroad for the acquisition of the abandoned rail line; <br /> and <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of St. Anthony <br /> hereby declares support for the acquisition of the currently unused BNSF rail line and corridor <br /> through Roseville, St. Anthony, and Minneapolis for an ultimate transportation purpose with <br /> the possibility of an interim recreation use; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the HCRRA, <br /> Minnesota Department of Transportation, the Transportation Advisory Board, and the state and <br /> • federal legislative delegations representing the three cities. <br />
