Central and northern Areas-Retail Centers, liquor store, fire station, gas <br /> station. <br /> Strategies: <br /> • Village Green-Develop a village green in the existing center area <br /> parking lot along the Highway 88-center edge. This would be the <br /> center's"soul", the natural showpiece to attract shopper and walker. <br /> It would be well landscaped with walking paths, benches, a gazebo, <br /> and a water feature. This would be a place to stroll, to sit and relax, <br /> enjoy nature, gather with friends, or listen to a concert. <br /> • Retail Mini Malls-Enhance and expand the existing retail buildings in <br /> their existing location by creating double corridor malls. These four <br /> season malls would have interior pedestrian walkways, areas for <br /> sitting and perhaps a winter garden. These centers would have a mix <br /> of specialty retail shops, anchor ethnic? restaurants, the relocated <br /> liquor store and community uses such as, the library, fire station, and <br /> child care center. Service entrances would be located in through the <br /> center of these retail malls. These building would be designed with a <br /> new urbanism, village-like architectural character. <br /> • Parking areas-The existing parking lots would be reconfigured and <br /> well-landscaped with green islands and distinctive paving. The <br /> distinctive paving would indicate appropriate pedestrian paths to the <br /> village green and to the shopping center. Parking would also be <br /> provided for the mini-mall along Kenzie Terrace.
