INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM <br /> TO: MICHAEL J.MORNSON <br /> FROM: JOEL A.HEWITT <br /> SUBJECT: MINEAPOLIS TRAINING TOWER CONTRACT <br /> DATE: 05/01/00 <br /> CC: <br /> BACKGROUND: The Minneapolis Fire Department is offering to neighbor department's use <br /> of their training campus. This campus includes classrooms, a sir-story tower, and a propane fueled <br /> dwelling fire simulator. The campus is located on the waterworks property in Fridley at #25, 37th <br /> Ave. N.E. <br /> The primary use our department is interested in is the fire simulator. With actual fires on the <br /> decrease,old homes and buildings becoming unavailable for this type of training. It is essential for us <br /> to have this opportunity with live fire training. To provide the ability to instruct our personnel in <br /> maintaining their firefighting skills and abilities in our current staff In addition to instructing our new <br /> personnel. <br /> Training would take place in the evening as well as on an occasional Saturday. We would sent <br /> . half the staff to the campus with the remainder staying in the city to maintain service. The next <br /> session we would exchange the crews. <br /> The cost for use of the fire simulator is $450 for the fast two hours and$175 for each additional <br /> hour, or fraction of ail hour. This cost includes one sunnulator operator, one Fire Instructor and <br /> propane fuel used <br /> Funding for this year use would come from the current Fire operating budget. Future funding <br /> would be requested through the formal budgeting process. <br /> REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: To authorize the City Manager to enter a contract to use <br /> the Minneapolis Fire Department Fire Training Campus. <br /> Attachment <br />
