DATE: May 14, 1992
TO: PLANNING COMMISSIONERS
FROM: David Mark Urbia, Management Assistant
ITEM: SOUTH END REDEVELOPMENT OPTIONS
BACKGROUND
As a result of neighborhood opposition to the proposed Walgreen's development at the
current Rosie's location, the City Council enacted a development moratorium and
established a task force to study planning, zoning, and redevelopment issues in the
moratorium area. The moratorium area is detailed in the map provided with the public
hearing notice. BRW was selected as.a planning consultant to obtain input and ideas from
the task force and develop options. The planning consultant developed three options for
the task force to provide further input. The task force desired a fourth option (a hybrid of
the three presented). The task force selected the fourth option by consensus.
NEXT STEP
Tonight, the Planning Commission will review the four options, receive input from residents,
discuss the options, and recommend to the City Council the option (one of the four
presented or a hybrid) that would be the most appropriate to approve or consider.
Note: Staff asked for the planning consultant to present the information to the
Planning Commission; however, he was unable to attend due to a prior
arrangement.
