STAFF REPORT
DATE: June 10, 1993
TO: Planning Commission
FROM: David Mark Urbia, Management Assistant
ITEM: INFORMATION
Sign Ordinance Issue
After the Northgate sign variance proposal was denied, staff was notified by the applicants that
they may consider legal action. Staff directed the City Attorney to give an opinion on this
replacement issue. From the opinion, the City Council reconsidered the denial motion and
granted the Northgate sign variance proposal. For future issues like this, the City Attorney
proposed ordinance language. The first reading of the ordinance was June 8th. The ordinance
language is included with my report.
Section 1130 - Peddlers, Solicitors and Transient Merchants
The owner of Gems and Stems (St. Anthony Shopping Center) made a request to the City
Council at the May Work Session to sell flowers on Mother's Day. The Council could not
grant permission, as the City's practice is to not approve registration for street vendors. The
exemption to this is for non-profit organization sales. The request from the Gems and Stems
owner would be for-profit. Once the Council allowed this request, other less desirable street
vendors would- also have to be approved. The City Council directed this item to the Planning
Commission for input.
•
