STAFF REPORT
DATE: December 21, 1993
TO: Planning Commission
FROM: Sarah Bellefuil, Management Assistant
RE: OUTSIDE STORAGE
The City does not have an ordinance addressing outside storage and sales. In the
past, the issue of outside storage has not been a problem, but recently there has
been an increase in the number of items stored outside by local businesses. For
example, local gas stations are placing pallets of salt and bottles of antifreeze in
front of their stores. . While the items are useful, it is becoming an eyesore at
certain locations.
Because their is currently no ordinance addressing this issue the staff is unable to
control this activity. One way to control it would be through a special use
permit. This would allow the City to review individual proposals and make
recommendations if an applicant requests outside storage and sales space.
Attached are ordinances from other cites addressing outside storage and sales.
RECOMMENDATION
Planning Commission to recommend that staff research and develop an outside
storage and sales ordinance. The ordinance would require a special use permit
by businesses if they wish to store or sell items outside of their building.
