1 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING <br /> 2 NOVEMBER 9 , 1993 • <br /> 3 PAGE 4 <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> 6 Report of Mayor Ranallo <br /> 7 <br /> 8 In response to a resident ' s inquiry regarding the future of <br /> 9 the St . Anthony Library, Mayor Ranallo stated that this issue <br /> 10 is being taken very seriously by the City Council . It. was <br /> 11 discussed at the October 26th Council Meeting and again at the <br /> 12 last Council work session . <br /> 13 <br /> 14 Members of the Council decided to put together a strategic <br /> 15 plan for approaching this issue and have drafted a letter <br /> 16 which will be sent to all members of the Hennepin County Board <br /> 17 of - Commissioners . , The 'Mayor noted this letter will be <br /> 18 available for resident reviewal . <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Commissioner Hilary will be holding a meeting at Wilshire Park <br /> 21 Elementary School on November 15th . Her purpose for the <br /> 22 meeting is to review the social services available to Hennepin <br /> 23 County residents and to discuss other areas of interest or <br /> 24 concern . <br /> 25 <br /> 26 Some St . Anthony residents have indicated they plan to discuss <br /> 27 the St . Anthony Library at this meeting also. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Mayor Ranallo has registered to speak at the November 17th <br /> 30 Hennepin County Board of Commissioners Meeting. He will <br /> 31 present the Council ' s position and state reasons for keeping <br /> 32 the St . Anthony Library open . <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Blue ribbons indicating support of the St . Anthony Library are <br /> 35 being passed out to supporters and petitions are being <br /> 36 circulated for the same purpose. The City Manager advised that <br /> 37 flyers are being sent home with school children supporting the <br /> 38 Library remaining open . <br /> 39 <br /> 40 Mayor Ranallo noted that two of the City ' s grade schools , <br /> 41 Wilshire Park and St . Charles , have increasing student <br /> .42 populations . These two schools are served by the St . Anthony <br /> 43 Library. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 Councilmember Fleming recommended that some focus be placed on <br /> 46 the- Hennepin County Library Board as this is the body which <br /> 47 ultimately makes the decision regarding the future of the St . <br /> 48 Anthony Library, <br /> 49 <br /> 50 <br />
