n <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Staff recommends approval of the variance request of 7'h feet in order to construct as <br /> addition to an existing porch, provided that the applicants complete the construction <br /> within 12 months as stipulated in the City Zoning Ordinance. This addition would <br /> provide more liveable space for the owner and his family. The construction of the <br /> addition would be such that it would not extend beyond the wall of the existing structure, <br /> it would blend with existing structures and would buffer backyard activities from Silver <br /> Lake Road. <br /> The applicant has demonstrated hardships that make it difficult to improve their property <br /> without a variance. This situation is unique for the following reasons: <br /> 1. The property has the principal`residential structure,already sitting in the side <br /> yard setback. The principal structure was built in 1961, before the City's <br /> zoning ordinances were codified. <br /> 2.
