Planning Commission Regular Meeting Minutes
February 17, 1998
Page 5
Shawn Egle, 3640 Silver Lake Road, questioned if the antenna would cause interference with his
DSS system and his C.B. radio.
Ms. Moore-Sykes stated that according to the information provided to Staff there will be no
interference because of the frequency range and the height.
Chair Bergstrom suggested that a condition of approval could be that the antenna not interfere
with satellite transmission or reception.
Mr. Egle stated he did not believe this was an ideal location for the antenna as the elevation of
Silver Lake Road increases to the south and there will be a shadow in the footprint of broadcast.
Ms. Moore-Sykes stated the applicant indicated that this site or the area of mini-storage by
Happy's Potato Chips are prime sites for this type of antenna.
Mr. Sert, 3637 Coolidge, stated he lives directly across the street from the proposed location of
the antenna. He was not certain that the health issues were proven one way or the other. He
stated that the proposed location of the antenna would lower his property value. He:suggested
that the antenna be located at Apache Plaza as it is a higher elevation and is commercial property.
He noted that the proposed location is within 1000 feet of a power substation and US West will
have to use a special material to cover the cable to protect it from the power. He stated US West
hadn't even been aware of this. He does not like the antenna being placed across the street from
his house and neither do his neighbors.
Commissioner Horst asked Mr. Sert where he had learned about the power substation issue.
Mr. Sert stated he had heard it from workmen at the site today. One of the workers stated he had
just found out today.
Commissioner Horst noted that if there is any effect, the power substation will effect the
microwave transmissions rather than the microwave effecting the power.
Mr. Sert stated Apache Plaza.would be a better location. From his discussion this morning, US.
West had no intention of sending a representative to the meeting this evening.
Chair Bergstrom closed the public hearing at 7:37 P.M.
Chair Bergstrom stated he was disappointed that a representative of US West was not present.
Ms. Moore-Sykes stated she had not been informed that a representative would not be present.
The City Clerk had sent a letter to the applicant explaining the date and time of the public
hearing.
