Plan of Service for 1981-82
Provide a broad description of your plan of service -for 1981-82. At a
minimum, this schould include goals and services to be provided and the
process for determining individual program plans. Use additional pages
if necessary.
ADULT PROGRX-I
The adult program will continue to provide a training program for adults, 21 years and
older, who are mentally retarded. Some of these persons may also have cerebral palsy and/or
seizure disorders. Presently one-third of the adults live at home and two-thirds live in
residential facilities. The majority of the adults are considered severely or profoundly
retarded.
For 1981-82, there are 221 program days planned over an eleven month period and the hours
will remain the same, 9:00 A.*1. to 3:00 P.M. The program is offered Monday through Friday
with two half-days a month put aside for program planning.
The structure of the program will allow participants to rotate between classes. However,
the number of periods in a day is being reduced from five to three. It was felt more one
to one instruction time could be facilitated if the c.l.ass; period~ were 'increased frolil 45
minutes to 75 or 90 minutes. The participants will continue to receive a morning coffee
break and at least a 30 minute lunch time.
A work component will continue to be a part of the program. An attempt is being made to
Wcrease the number of hours a person can work in this program component. Also, because it
s so very difficult to secure enough sub-contract work to keep the work program going
four days a. week, the development of an agency prime product may be necessary.
Other program areas offered will be Physical L'ducation, Leisure Time' and Recreation, Social
Skills, some Independent ]riving, and selected Grooming Skills and Communication Skills.
A system is being, worked out so each participant may more of the program activities
and classes they woiliu like to have.
The progralll plan for 1981-82 is to reduce the t.o eight persons or four teachers
and .tour teacher-assistants. lJith a staff r;itiO i?I' I to 8, this would enable the enrollment
to grow to 64 participants. This would mean, on the other.hand, not all persons requesting
services could receive them or a waiting list t,ould be developed. - Those persons living at
home with their parents or in small group homes will be g.ivcrl prioritv for enrollment . As
openings develop, enrollment of additional persons will be larased on their compatibility to
fit into the existing program structure.
The individual program plans for each adult will. be developed through a team of the staff
that work with each participant , and the persons parents and/or persons from their residential
facility. Standardized testing has been secured for most of the adults during this present
program year. Those results and where the participant falls on a variety of task analyses
determines part of their IPP. Other things taken into consideration are parent observations
and desires and assessments done by the residenti- I facility. In .1.981-82 participant
choice will be given more consideration than it hcis in the past . [n addition to the daily
training program, annual staffings wil.l. be he.1d for each person with 90 day reviews.
