C Z TY OF ST _ ANTI-�GNY <br /> C OUN C 2 L WORK S E S S=ON <br /> x NTEg2V 2 EW M3 NUTES <br /> AUGUST 2 5 1 3 8 '7. <br /> 1 The interview of Peggy Swonger, 3525 Stinson Boulevard, to fill <br /> 2 the vacancy on the Eastside Hennepin County Human Services <br /> 3 Committee opened at 7 : 22 P.M. , following the H.R.A. interview of <br /> 4 Lang/Nelson. The Mayor and all four Councilmembers, as well as <br /> 5 the City Manager , Attorney and Public Works Director were present. <br /> 6 Ms. Swonger told the Councilmembers she had an interest in this <br /> 7 type of community service because she was in Occupational Therapy <br /> 8 classes at St. Mary' s. She indicated she. was new in St. Anthony <br /> 9 and thought this presented her with a good opportunity of doing <br /> 10 some volunteer work related to her field without going too far <br /> 11 from her home. <br /> 12 Mr. Childs told the applicant he understood the Committee met one <br /> 13 Tuesday every month in the highrise building on 18th Avenue N.E. <br /> '14 and Central. <br /> 15 Councilmember Makowske indicated she perceived Ms. Swonger could <br /> 16 get a good feel for what the Committee did from Roscella Connolly <br /> 17 who had served as Chair of the Committee for three years . <br /> 08 Mayor Sundland said he perceived this Committee to be more of <br /> 19 preventive maintenance type rather than a reactionary group. Mr. <br /> 20 Childs said he understood one of the, main functions of this <br /> 21 Committee was to help the Human Services Department decide where <br /> 22 funds could best be spent to provide for the Department' s needs <br /> 23 network including the handicapped, the unemployed, the elderly, <br /> 24 and single parent households. <br /> 25 The Mayor told the applicant the Council would be formally <br /> 26 appointing her to serve as the City' s representative on the <br /> 27 Committee during the Council meeting which would follow. He <br /> 28 indicated the Council would welcome her reports on the Committee <br /> 29 activities and a visit with her if she had any questions or was <br /> 30 looking for direction from them. <br /> 31 Her appointment was formalized by the following motion during a <br /> 32 short recess for that purpose of the meeting of the Housing and <br /> 33 Redevelopment Authority which followed the Council meeting at 9 :00 <br /> 34 P.M. <br /> 35 Council Action <br /> 36 Motion by Marks , seconded by Enrooth to appoint Peggy Swonger to <br /> 37 -fill the vacancy on the Eastside Hennepin County Human Services <br /> 38 Committee. <br /> 4039 Motion carried unanimously. <br /> 40 Respectfully -submitted, <br /> 41 Helen Crowe, Secretary <br /> 42 :cjk <br />
