Regular Council Meeting <br /> July 31 , 1990 <br /> page. 6 <br /> • <br /> 1 was to encourage trade between China and the United States. <br /> 2 <br /> 3 Since he will be vacationing, Councilmember Marks advised he <br /> 4 will not be in attendance at the August 14th Council meeting. <br /> 5 <br /> 6 Councilmember Makowske gave a status report on the transportation <br /> 7 interests and needs of the City. She stated that MTC Commissioner <br /> 8 Nawrocki had been very helpful in responding to the concerns of <br /> 9 the City regarding .transportation and she requested a letter be <br /> 10 drafted to be sent to him indicating his efforts are appreciated. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 It was noted that Senator Marty and Representative McGuire are <br /> 13 aware of the transportation issues of the City. A letter of <br /> 14 response was received from Representative McGuire. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Councilmember Makowske noted that a questionnaire has been sent <br /> 17 to residents at Autumn Woods, Kenzington and Walker concerning <br /> 18 their transportation needs and potential use of bus service. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Sue VanderHeyden indicated some of these completed questionnaires <br /> 21 have been received at City Hall . She anticipates more will be coming <br /> 22 in the near future. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 The Council received a letter from Ray Haik, representative of the <br /> 25 Silver Lake Homeowners Association, regarding the Association's efforts <br /> 26 and plans to address water runoff into Silver Lake. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Councilmember Makowske felt the Council should consider lending its <br /> 29 support to the efforts of the Association. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Councilmember Marks had questions concerning the area serviced by bus <br /> 32 route #25. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Councilmember Makowske advised this route presently comes down Silver <br /> 35 Lake Road. She had suggested to the Metropolitan Transit Commission <br /> 36 the bus on this route should angle to the right , follow Stinson Boulevard <br /> 37 to Highway#88, and then proceed on its intended stops. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 She noted this would add perhaps two minutes onto the route, but this <br /> 40 time would result from picking up passengers, which is the purpose of <br /> 41 the bus in the first place. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 Councilmember Marks suggested a compromise could be for the bus to <br /> 44 go partially through Kenzington and then pass through the St. Anthony <br /> 45 Shopping Center parking lot. He noted that this is the practice for <br /> 46 the bus at the Apache Shopping Center. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 Councilmember Wagner stated that the bus at the Apache Shopping Center <br /> 49 uses roads whereas at the St. Anthony Shopping Center lanes through <br /> 50 • <br />
