(Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a semester-long program that <br /> teaches young people ways of resisting peer pressure to experiment with drugs and <br /> alcohol; <br /> WHEREAS, DA.RE. targets young people when they are most vulnerable to peer pressure and <br /> teaches skills to make positive decisions, as stvd as resist the pressure to engage in <br /> negative behaviors, <br /> WHEREU over 25 million students worldwide and over 100,000 Minnesota students in more <br /> than 150 communities, have been reached through D.A.R.E.; <br /> WHEREAS, the D.A.R.E.curriculum helpsstudents understandseff-image, recognize andmanage <br /> stress without taking drugs, evaluate risk-taking behavior, resistgang pressure, apply <br /> decision-making skills and evaluate the consequences of the choices available to <br /> them; <br /> WHEREAS, the D.A.R.E. program has achieved outstanding success, teaching positive and <br /> effective approaches to one of the most d�fficuft problems facing our young people <br /> today - drug abuse; <br /> WHEREAS, September 12, 1991, has been proclaimed National D.A.R.E. Day by the United <br /> States Congress, and Minnesota D.A.R.E. Day by the Governor of Minnesota. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the St. Anthony City Council hereby authorizes Mayor Chirence Ranalfo <br /> to sign the proclamation proclaiming rIhwsday,,September 12, 1991, to be <br /> DARE.
