MEMORANDUM <br /> • DATE: January 20, 1999 <br /> TO: Michael J. Mornson, City Manager <br /> FROM: Kim Moore-Sykes, Management Assistant <br /> ITEM: January 19' Planning Commission Meeting Summary <br /> 1. Planning Commission Representative. No Planning Commission Representative was <br /> designated for the Council at the January,26' Council meeting. <br /> 2. Public Hearings. None. <br /> 3. Concept Review. None. <br /> 4. Report from the Parks Commission. <br /> Diane Roadfeldt reported that the Commission is working on Water Tower Park. She said <br /> the Bob Kost has presented them,with drawings and will be working with him in February <br /> to fine-tune the plans. She also reported that she is part of the subcommittee that will be <br /> selecting playground equipment. <br /> 5. Discussion of Goals for 1999. Makowske provided an update of last month's discussion <br /> • on establishing goals for the Planning Commission to work on. Bergstrom asked Staff to <br /> provide a listing of the key comprehensive planning issues that were discussed in 1998. <br /> 6. Council Liaison to Planning Commission. Staff reported on information received from <br /> New Brighton, Woodbury and Brooklyn Center. The Commissioners liked the structure <br /> that exists for Planning Commission representatives when they report to the City Council. <br /> They agreed that they would the Council Liaison to attend monthly on a rotating basis and . <br /> present his report early in the agenda. <br /> 7. Reviewed Report from Dick Krier. Horst stated that he liked the idea of having a theme <br /> and to create a "unique, quaint, neighborhood center, open space" makes sense for the <br /> Center. He did say that he did not think that it was an "ethnic" center and would like that <br /> idea struck from the document because he does not want developers getting the wrong idea <br /> about what the merchants want for the center. Gondorchin stated that he did not feel Krier <br /> was a visionary or had developed any new ideas for the Center. Bergstrom reiterated that <br /> Krier's responsibility was to show a destination for the City and it is up to the City to find <br /> the pathways to that destination. <br /> 8. Joint Planning Commission & Council Meeting, March 9. 1999. This date is good for the <br /> Commissioners and they appreciated the opportunity to meet with the Council. <br /> • 9. Adjournment. The Planning Commission meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m. <br />
