38.
MEMO
DATE: June 3, 2002
TO: Mike Morrison
FROM: Dick Engstrom
SUBJECT: Parking Options
On April 23, 2002, we sent a letter accompanied by options for parking around the high
school on Rankin, 32nd, 33rd, Skycroft Drive, Hilldale, and Townview. These letters were
sent to 78 neighbors in that immediate area. We have received 28 responses by return of
the options questionnaire. Four respondents called the police department.
• Eight respondents liked Option#1 of signage"No Parking During School Hours,
Monday Thru Friday, 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Fourteen respondents chose Option#2 of signage"No Parking on One Side of the
Street, Monday Thru Friday During School 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
• Three.respondents chose Option#3 —do nothing, but inform the students to park
on one side, 20 feet from the cross walk, and 30 feet from stop signs. Also inform
them not to block private driveways (would require some signage).
• One respondent chose Options#1, #2, #3, &#4 (other)
• One respondent chose Options#1, #2, #3
• Two respondents chose Options#1, #2, &#4(other)
• Three respondents chose Options#3
#4 Option ranged from school should let them use the lot without paying for it; let
the kids walk, let the kids ride bikes, let the bus drop them off and pick them up.
• Other comments, under#4, were worried about getting in and out of driveways,
garbage pickup, snow plows, emergency vehicles getting through in the winter,
and a place for workers on private homes to park.
The Police Department concurs with the majority, and would recommend Option#2,
along with signage for stop signs and crosswalks.
Please see attached options.
