-6-
recommending the branch pickup program be discontinued this year, in-
cluding the difficulties and expenses incurred during the curbside
collections last year. He had also included quotes from local garbage
haulers for performing .the .same services for their customers .
Councilman Enrooth concurred that spending over $10 ,000 for this program
in a year where severe cutbacks in other services, might be necessary,
would. probably not be prudent. Councilman Marks acknowledged that this
could be a very unpopular decision with the citizenry who have always
appreciated this service, which is one of the most visible the City
provides , but he also agreed it was a step that had to be taken.
Councilman Ranallo said he liked the point which was made by Mr.. Childs
that the City would have to charge residents mote to pick up the branches
than it would cost them to have their own trash haulers do the job and
he indicated he perceives the City could be criticized for competing
with private industry, if they should undertake the project.
Motion by Councilman .Marks and seconded by Councilman Ranallo to adopt
the resolution which establishes a separate fund for accounting for
H. R.A. funds and authorize the transfer of $6 ,275 held in the General
Funds into that fund.
RESOLUTION 83-023
A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A FUND FOR THE
HOUSING AND REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY
OF ST.
