I
The Sign Ordinance provides that directional signs having a surface area
of not greater than 5 feet do not require a variance. In addition, the
two signs must be ground hugging or provide berming and landscaping
between the sign surface and the ground.
The two proposed signs are 6 feet X 3". 5 feet for 21 square feet plus l-
3/4 square feet for the top circular logo portion for a total of 22-3/4
square feet.
The attached drawing indicates the organization of the sign and the
following two signs indicate where the directional signs are to be
located.
The signs are proposed to be made of a treated wood with the Autumn
Woods logo and addresses routed. In addition, the signs will be painted
so as to match the color scheme of the apartment buildings. The signs
will also be located at least 5 feet from the street or curb as called
for by the Sign Ordinance.
Finally, the sign will be approximately 6 inches from the ground with
the landscaping consisting of shrubs and flowers in front of the sign.
The sign will still be within the 5 foot height limit set within the
Sign Ordinance.
The owners of Autumn Woods Apartments, the applicant of the sign
variance, feel that the signs would be beneficial to the St. Anthony
Police and Fire Departments in emergency situations.
One call was received from a resident stating their feeling that the
signs are too large.
