Any sign which is freestanding by virtue of being <br /> structurally independent of any structure or object other than uprights, braces <br /> or poles, without guywires or pedestal. <br /> Subd. 19. Projecting Sign. A sign other than a wall sign, which is affixed to a <br /> building and projects outward more than 15 inches from the building wall or <br /> structure. <br /> Subd. 20. Public Service Sign. Any sign primarily intended to promote items <br /> of general interest to the community. <br /> Subd. 21. Real Estate Sign. A sign pertaining to the sale, lease or rental of the <br /> real estate upon which it is located. <br /> Subd. 22. Roof Line. The uppermost line of the roof of a building, or in the <br /> case of an extended facade, the uppermost height of the facade. <br /> Subd. 23. Roof ST. A sign erected upon the roof or parapet of a building, <br /> the entire face of which is situated above the roof level of the building to <br /> which it is attached, and which is wholly or partially supported by the <br /> building. <br /> Subd. 24. ShoppingCenter. Any group of four or more retail stores or service <br /> establishments on one or more contiguous tracts of land in single ownership, <br /> compromising 18,000 or more square feet of floor area with parking provided <br /> on the tract or tracts of land for use in common by patrons. <br /> Subd. 25. 5ign. Any structure, device, advertisement or visual representation <br /> intended to visually advertise, identify or communicate information, or to <br /> visually attract the attention of the public for any purpose unless located <br /> within a building and not visible from the exterior of the building. Without <br /> limiting the generality of the foregoing, the term includes any symbols, <br /> letters, figures, illustrations or forms painted, or otherwise affixed to a <br /> building or structure, any beacon or search light intended to attract the <br /> attention of the public for any purpose, and any structure or device the prime <br /> purpose of which is to border, illuminate, animate or project a visual <br /> representation. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the term sign shall not <br /> include official notices issued by any court or governmental body, notices <br /> posed by a public official in the performance of official duties, or traffic control <br /> signs established pursuant to governmental authority. <br /> • <br /> 14-3 <br />
