• STAFF REPORT
DATE: April 13, 1993
„TO: Planning Commission
FROM: David Mark Urbia, Management Assistant
ITEM: - CONCEPT REVIEW -- STOP -N- SAVE, 3259 STINSON BOULEVARD
Mr. Jim Sarna, Jr., owner of the Stop -N- Save, would like to install a canopy over the gas
pumps. A letter explains why he feels he needs a canopy at his business. The proposed
plan is included which shows the need for a variance. The outermost corner of the canopy
to 33rd Avenue Northeast is approximately ten feet. The outermost corner of the canopy
to Stinson Boulevard is approximately six feet. The ordinance requires setbacks of 35 feet
on both sides. A variance of approximately 25' and 29' respectively would be required.
An advantage of allowing a canopy would be to assist a business in St. Anthony. However,
there is the difficulty of proving hardship. In addition, a precedent could be set, where other
owners would want canopies.
